5 USA Cities for Outdoor Lovers

Portland, Oregon
The USA is full to the brim with natural beauty, which makes it an ideal destination for exploring the great outdoors. These five USA cities for outdoor lovers are great places to start your wild adventures.

Portland

Oregon is a hive of activity for outdoor adventure in the USA, and Portland is one of the best places to base yourself if you’re looking for that blend of city and fresh air. Forest Park is a good place to start as it has over 70 miles of trails ideal for walking, running, or cycling.
Alternatively head slightly further afield to Oxbow Regional Park, which offers ample opportunity for swimming, kayaking, and camping. If you need a quick fix in the city, just look up – Mount Hood is visible from many spots in the city.

Minneapolis

Just like Oregon, Minnesota is a breeding ground for outdoor adventure. This state is home to thousands of lakes – a whole lifetime of adrenaline-fuelled activities await anyone travelling here. Hop on a flight to Minneapolis and go canoeing or kayaking through the Chain of Lakes, on a bike tour around the city, or sledding in the park in winter.
Nearby St Paul is also a great place to get outdoors in Minnesota. The Mississippi River runs through both the cities, and St Paul is close to a number of other lakes just waiting to be explored.

Anchorage

Alaska is the definition of wild in the USA. This largely undiscovered state is a playground for anyone who likes to be outdoors, and flights to Anchorage are relatively easy to come by from cities in the Pacific Northwest. Using Anchorage as your base, you can go on biking, hiking, kayaking, and more.
As you’re in Alaska, make sure you don’t miss catching some wildlife while you’re here. From moose to salmon, bears to whales, Alaska is one of the best places in the USA to get out into nature and connect yourself with a world of wildlife.

Asheville

One of North Carolina’s most dazzling gems, Asheville is known for being an artistic haven and bursting with creativity. However, that’s not the only thing this city’s got going for it. Leafy Asheville sits nestled among mountains and is a stone’s throw from the Appalachian Trail, one of the USA’s most popular long-distance hiking trails.
So it will come as no surprise that hiking is one of the most popular outdoor activities in Asheville. Hundreds of miles of trails skirt the city, with mountain views aplenty. If that’s not your thing, in Asheville you can also go biking, horse riding, camping and ziplining.

Boulder

Beloved by rock climbers the world over (which makes its name extremely apt), Boulder is used by thousands of people as a base for getting out and about in Colorado. Over the years, this is has been voted one of the most outdoorsy cities in the USA, so it has to go on this list.
Paddle a kayak through the center of town, go tubing at Boulder Creek, stomp along the 300 miles of hiking trails that loop around the city and surrounding area, or check out nearby Bolder Canyon and Eldorado Canyon. The list is endless.
